Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, dear colleagues,

It is a great honor for us at the Institute of Pathology and Molecular Diagnostics of the University Hospital Augsburg to host the 109th Annual Meeting of the German Society of Pathology in May 2026. We are truly excited to welcome you to Augsburg, a city where tradition and innovation merge seamlessly.

Augsburg, one of Germany's oldest cities and a UNESCO World Heritage site, is renowned for its rich cultural history and industrial heritage. As the birthplace of the first functional diesel engine, invented by Rudolf Diesel, it stands as a symbol of engineering excellence and technological ingenuity. The city's architectural landmarks, such as the Fugger Houses and its medieval old town, reflect this deep-rooted tradition, while its modern advancements in robotics, materials science, and sustainable urban development highlight its forward-thinking spirit. Augsburg’s vibrant research and technology ecosystem thrives on collaboration between academia, industry, and public institutions, creating the ideal environment for innovative exchanges and interdisciplinary dialogue.

Under the theme „United in Science“, we will build a bridge to neighbouring disciplines. Together, we aim to examine and discuss fascinating new technologies, some of which have already become part of routine practice, while others open the doors to entirely new developments. This interdisciplinary approach is not only woven into the conference theme, but also reflected in the diverse program that links classical pathology with cutting-edge fields such as molecular diagnostics, veterinary pathology, neuropathology, forensic medicine, and cytology. Pathology meets Hightech: By bridging these disciplines and incorporating technological advancements, we aim to open new frontiers in both research and clinical practice.

In addition, we will explore transformative technological advancements that are shaping the future of pathology. Topics will include groundbreaking developments in molecular radiomics, advanced mass spectrometry, next-generation sequencing, and light sheet microscopy. Digital pathology will also be a key focus, with discussions on whole-slide imaging, AI-powered diagnostic tools, structured reporting, and next-generation laboratory information systems. These innovations promise to revolutionize our approach to diagnosis, treatment, and patient care, making this an exciting time for our field.

We warmly invite you to take full advantage of this congress for in-depth discussions, creative exchanges, and meaningful networking — whether through lectures, poster sessions, workshops, or informal conversations. Together, we will set the stage for future breakthroughs in pathology and strengthen the collaborative spirit that drives our discipline forward.

We look forward to welcoming you to an inspiring event that will shape the future of pathology and pave the way for new scientific discoveries.

With best regards,
