Rudolf Virchow Prize 2025

The Rudolf Virchow Prize of the DGP is awarded to a pathologist under the age of 40 for an outstanding scientific work in the field of pathology that has not yet been published or has not been published more than one year before the application. The work should essentially have been written in the DACH (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) region. The prize is usually awarded at the annual meeting of the DGP following the submission date. The 2025 prize will be awarded at the 108th Annual Meeting of the DGP in Leipzig (June 12-14, 2025). The endowment is 5,000 euros.

Applicants for 2025 should submit their work together with a CV and a list of publications by December 31, 2024. Please send the complete documents as a PDF file by e-mail to the

German Society of Pathology e.V.
Mr. Secretary General Jörg Maas

The Rudolf Virchow Prize was previously awarded by the Rudolf Virchow Foundation established by the DGP, which is currently being dissolved. DGP will continue this task.

DGP Research Prize 2025

The DGP will once again award the DGP Research Prize at the 2025 Annual Meeting. All contributions submitted during the general call for abstracts will be considered. The prize is endowed with 1,000 euros.
The scientific committee will select the contributions to be included in the application round for the research prize during the general review of abstracts.
In a second selection step, the jury for the research prize selects the best papers from the proposed pool of applicants. These contributions are then marked as candidates for the research prize in the conference program and will be evaluated by the jury during the conference. The authors and speakers will be informed of the selection in good time.
It is desirable that the selected contributions are presented on site directly by the first authors. There should be no substitute presentations, e.g. by other members of the research group. The winner of the research prize will be announced and awarded during the conference.
The majority of the work considered should have been produced at institutes of pathology (preferably in the DACH region). Encore abstracts without substantial updating of the data used are generally excluded from the application process.

DGP Doctoral Prize 2025

The DGP doctoral prize is endowed with 750 to 1,500 euros. Applicants must submit their contributions during the general call for abstracts (deadline: February 20, 2025).
Both medical and scientific doctoral theses can be considered as applications. Papers can be submitted if they:
- have already been completed as a doctorate
- have already been submitted as a doctorate
- have been registered as a doctorate and have already been published
- have been registered as a doctorate and have already been accepted for publication

Encore abstracts without a substantial update of the data used are generally excluded from the application process.
The majority of doctoral theses should have been completed at institutes of pathology (preferably in the DACH region). Applications must be submitted directly by the doctoral student and, if shortlisted, should also be presented by the applicants in a lecture on site. The presentations of the selected applicants will be planned within the general program and viewed by the jury. There will be no pure doctoral award session. The award winners should be present for the award ceremony on Saturday afternoon.

DGP Poster Prizes 2025

The prize is aimed in particular at young researchers in the field of pathology who have drawn attention to their work with an interesting and well thought-out poster presentation on an important topic.
Candidates will be selected in a two-stage process:
The first selection will be made by the chairs during the general poster session on Friday, June 13, 2025. The selected candidates will be clearly marked with rosettes and contacted.
As a second step, a best poster session will take place on Saturday, June 14, 2025. Selected posters will be presented again in this session in the form of short presentations (5 minutes) in front of a jury and the interested public.
The presentations should be given directly by the first authors. Representations or substitutions by others (e.g. working group or team members) are not permitted.
The research work should have been carried out primarily at an institute of pathology in Germany, Austria or Switzerland.
Encore abstracts without significant new data are excluded as candidates.
The prizes will be announced and awarded directly after the meeting and are endowed with 500 euros.

We wish you every success!
